The next meeting of the North Florida Amateur Radio Society is Thursday, February 9th at Hogan Baptist Church, 8045 Hogan Rd.   The meeting begins at 7pm.   Members, visitors and others interested in Amateur Radio are invited.
Duval County Emergency Coordinator Brian Schultheis, K4BJS and NOFARS Activities Manager Mike Robinson, KG2MM are coordinating our operation.   Several stations will be in operation.   Bring your own equipment and set up too if you wish.   This is an excellent opportunity for newcomers to learn more about getting on the air.
Replacement of transmission lines and installation of a new metal grid atop the Wells Fargo Tower begins in February.   NOFARS needs to acquire two 300-foot lengths for W4IZ's VHF/UHF system.   Anyone knowing a free or cheap source for 300 ft hardline lengths or other low-loss transmission line, please contact WA4B, WB4LEQ or advise via n4uf@nofars.net   Service interruptions may occur as work progresses.
The W4IZ repeater is funded independently from NOFARS treasury.   Donations by individuals along with 50/50 ticket sales at NOFARS meetings and gatherings provide support to keep W4IZ's repeaters on the air.
Watch JaxRadio.net  for W4IZ service updates.
NOFARS will assist in restoring the ship's radio room.   Plans also include installing an Amateur Radio station onboard the ship.   NOFARS President John Reynolds, W4IJJ states "we want to have, as a minimum, an operating H-F station with more to follow.   The annual 'Ships on the Air' takes place the first weekend in June so we need to have the station operable for that event."
Possibilities include HF wire antennas, verticals and a multi-band fan dipole that is already in place.   Transmission lines are damaged and will need rehabilitation.   Thanks to those who have volunteered to assist.   Additional volunteers are welcome.   Attend the next NOFARS meeting or contact W4IJJ.
Dues remain at only $5 per year.   Avoid future dues increases by joining or renewing for multiple years at the low $5/yr rate.
NOFARS Life Memberships start at only $50 for those who have been a member for five years or more.   For newcomers, the cost is $75.   See   JaxRadio.net/membership.html for more.
Please send dues to:
