The American Radio Relay League Field Day weekend is June 26-27 when local hams will contact others using similar improvised portable operations across the U.S. and Canada. Set-up starts Friday afternoon and continues Saturday morning with antenna installation and equipment testing.
Jacksonville's Field Day is organized by the Duval County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. Duval ARES EC Brian Schultheis, K4BJS said at the May NOFARS meeting that more use of solar power is a major goal this year. Todd Lovelace, K1KVA has extra panels to loan to those setting up their stations at the site. Contact him via t.lovelace@comcast.net . Operators and equipment are needed. Bring your station to FD and set it up. Ample space is available but arrive early to get the best spots. Ballfield light towers have brackets for attaching dipoles, slopers and other simple wire antennas.
Roger, KI4PIL has again arranged for the Salvation Army to bring their food truck to serve dinner Saturday. Besides an opportunity to become better prepared to operate during outages, Field Day is an excellent time for newcomers to observe stations being set up from scratch using simple antennas and gain hands-on experience.

JEFF THOMAS, WB4SCA: Jeff and two others died in a small plane crash near Middleburg. A friend's single-engine Beechcraft Musketeer crashed into a heavily wooded area shortly after taking off. Jeff joined NOFARS after receiving his first license in the early 1970s. He was retired from a career in consumer electronics service. Our condolences to Jeff's family and friends.
